Ford Transit Connect Review

Size

The Ford Transit Connect van is available with both short and long wheelbase options offering a load volume up to a mighty 3.6 cubic metres, and a payload capacity that ranges from 579kg to 865kg. A short wheelbase will enable you to carry items up to 3m long, while a long-wheelbase extends this capacity to 3.4m.

Depending on your personal needs the slightly smaller L1 version of the Ford Transit Connect might be more suitable. But, for transporting longer or heavier goods, the L2 version - with its added payload and overall capacity - could be ideal. Both models offer excellent access, with a rear loading bay and kerb-side sliding side door making it simple to unload equipment or materials no matter the location.

Engine & Economy

The mpg you can expect to get from the Ford Transit Connect van will vary depending on what specification you opt for. The most economical version of the Ford Transit Connect is the ECOnetic with a stop-start feature; this will achieve around 72mpg.

Each version of the Ford Transit Connect van comes with either a top-of-the-range Ford EcoBlue diesel or EcoBoost engine each with a choice of 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. According to Ford, their EcoBoost engines are able to provide the same level of performance as larger engines but with improved fuel economy and lower emissions. The start-stop feature is a clever fuel-saving feature that will stop the engine while waiting at traffic lights or queuing in traffic without cutting the power to other essential parts of the vehicle like headlights or the radio; an especially useful feature in towns and cities.

Safety Features

As standard with the Ford Transit Connect van , you will get ESC stability control that adapts the vehicle depending on the load ensuring the drive is smooth no matter what you have to transport. In addition to this, driver airbags, Hill Start Assist and Emergency Brake Assist are also included.

To improve on this, Ford also offer a range of other safety features. Pre-collision assist detects vehicles and pedestrians in front of your vehicle and warns you; should you fail to respond, it can automatically apply the brakes. The Traction Control System enhances the grip by reducing wheelspin to ensure performance and stability is not hindered when accelerating. Ford also offers a wide range of other safety features that can be added to the Connect including remote control locking and anti-tamper locking systems, ABS and even tyre pressure alerts.

Interior

The Ford Transit Connect’s cab boasts plenty of headroom along with some smart storage options. Ford Fiesta and Focus drivers will recognise many of the technologies featured on the dashboard. Previously, the Ford Transit Connect van had a range of different buttons across the dashboard and central console but these have been replaced with a touchscreen to simplify everything for the driver. The cab itself also has decent amounts of storage space with the glovebox, central storage area and overhead shelf all offering space.
