The Ford Transit Custom is the mid-sized van in Ford’s highly-praised range of vans and commercial vehicles. While this vehicle may be smaller than the standard Ford Transit van, the Custom can still hold as much as 1393kg in the largest of all the models under this range. Of these, the largest of all the Ford Transit Customs is the 340 series long wheelbase, with the smallest being the 260 series short wheelbase. 

The short wheelbase, referred to as the L1, and the long wheelbase, known as the L2, both have varying dimensions, with each also available with increased height in the van. As well as this, even the smallest Ford Transit Custom derivative has a capacity of 6000 litres, with the largest (L2 model with a high roof) managing an impressive 8300 litres of storage space. 

Another aspect of the new Ford Transit Custom is that there is an increased amount of storage available underneath the passenger seat, extending the storage capabilities to 3m even in the smaller model. This means that you do not necessarily need to store any long, expensive materials on the roof, which makes it a perfect, and safe commercial vehicle.

Engine & Economy

Each of the Ford Transit Custom models comes with a 2.0-litre TDCi Ford EcoBlue, with auto transmission options also available on certain models. Compared with other vans in its class the Ford Transit Custom is on the cheap side yet it comes with a 70-litre fuel tank, with Ford’s Eco Mode driver information system coming as standard in all vehicles. 

There are 8 different engine power units available across the full range of Ford Transit Custom vans, including plug-in hybrid options. The best economy achievable is 46.3 combined mpg, meaning that this van is amongst the most environmentally friendly vehicles in its field. This is achievable on the lowest power of the range - the 105 PS (77kW) iteration of the van.

Driving Technology

The Ford Transit Custom panel van comes with technology aimed at making driving as relaxing as possible. The vehicle comes with Ford’s Traffic Sign Recognition, which is designed to read and display road signs and their meanings right in front of you on your dashboard and comes as standard with Adaptive Cruise Control.

Another feature to help make your journey even smoother is Ford’s Adjustable Speed Limiter, which allows you to set a standard speed in between 15 mph and 70 mph, and ensures you do not go above the predetermined speed set. 

As well as these handy features, the new Transit Custom comes with Ford SYNC with Voice Control and Appsync. This means that you are able to play music, have phone conversations and control apps, simply through voice commands. You just need to connect your phone through Bluetooth to your van.
 

Safety Features

Each of the different Ford Transit Custom models - the Base, Trend, Limited and Sport - is renowned for its toughness and comes with a wide range of smart technologies that will keep you safe on the road. While the Base, Trend and Limited are more your traditional styled vans, the Custom is also available as a Sport van.
