Best EVs to Buy

Electric vehicles are no longer a novelty but are increasingly becoming mainstream as we accelerate the 2035 ban on new diesel and petrol vehicles. Selecting an EV for personal or commercial use has become an attractive option for families and businesses that want an environmentally friendly vehicle.

Do you own a petrol or hybrid-powered vehicle and plan to take the EV plunge? Nationwide Cars’ guide has picked the best EVs from our collection to consider buying.

MG MG4

The MG brand has been reborn, offering high-spec EVs at affordable prices.

MG’s MG4 stands out from other EV hatchbacks on the market, such as the Nissan Leaf, Vauxhall e-Corsa and Lexus UX, offering plenty of value for money. Starting from £26,260, you can choose the 125kW or 150kW battery options, providing rapid acceleration that’s on par with more expensive EVs, such as the Porsche Taycan and Polestar 2. It also handles well in various scenarios, from tight city roads to long motorway straights.

Step inside the MG4’s cockpit, and you will find a range of features designed to create an enjoyable driving experience. Adaptive cruise control, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto connectivity, and rear parking sensors are all included in our MG4 collection. With a big boot to store your weekly shop and luggage in the boot, there’s also leg room for four other passengers to sit inside the MG4.

Hyundai Kona Electric

Looking at the best small crossover SUV EVs on the market, the Hyundai Kona Electric stands out from its competitors.

The Kona Electric is the South Korean manufacturer’s second-ever electric car model. Inside the Kona, its futuristic exterior is reflected in the interior, sporting a high-tech cockpit with smartphone connectivity as standard and voice control. There are also heated and ventilated seats for the driver and front-seat passenger, allowing you to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Renault Megane E-Tech

Renault has produced many iconic hatchbacks, such as the Clio and Twingo. One hatch that has had an electric makeover is the Renault Megane.

The Renault Megane E-Tech is the EV version of the French manufacturer’s flagship hatchback, with an added twist. Out with the hatchback, in with the saloon body for the Megane E-Tech. It’s been redesigned with a more sporty, aerodynamic body.

When you enter the Megane E-Tech, the cockpit has been designed with the driver in mind, providing real-time traffic updates while driving. The range of the Megane e-Tech is on par with the Volkswagen ID.3, providing up to 280 miles off a single charge and a built-in heat pump to preserve its driving range.

Citroen e-C4

It’s been two decades since Citroen released the C4 in September 2004. The C4 has had a revamp for its EV version, the e-C4.

Featuring a higher driving position and a sportier look, the e-C4’s design combines an SUV's muscular look with a hatchback's practicality. Both 50kWh and 54kWh battery options deliver a range of more than 200 miles off a single charge.

Like the Renault Megane E-Tech, the e-C4 has an energy-efficient heat pump. The e-C4 is equipped with plenty of safety and driving aids to make a pleasurable driving experience.

Kia EV6

Kia’s first-ever EV crossover SUV, the EV6, is among the best EVs for families. With its bold, striking look, the EV6 has been built with sustainability in mind.

When you enter the Kia EV6, you’ll find that the floor carpets, dash, and door pockets have been made with recycled plastics. Also, there’s two electric powertrain options to select from (rear-wheel-drive) and (all-wheel-drive).

Both deliver over 300 miles of range, making the EV6 well-suited for long-distance driving and family road trips.
