Car buyers are in for an exciting year with a vast number of new vehicles set to arrive in the UK. With increasing pressure surrounding emissions and the need to be greener, car manufacturers are creating more hybrid and electric models than ever before.

This is the complete list of the best new cars of 2020 to get excited about!

 

City Cars and Superminis

Fiat 500

The latest Fiat 500 will be released in March with the new model boasting a more luxurious interior. It’s also only available as an electric car. Even with the big changes, it will retain the compact size you’re used to from a 500 but with improved space and technology.

Hyundai i10

This summer sees the release of the new Hyundai i10 which will remain an entry-level vehicle, but comes packed with an impressive array of technology. The new i10 is bigger than previous models, offering more interior space and a new exterior design.

Toyota Yaris

The new Toyota Yaris will be released in late 2020 with new interior and styling. There is expected to be a plug-in hybrid version that joins the hybrid models already in the range. A hardcore model featuring huge wheel arches and four-wheel drive is also highly-anticipated.

 

Family Hatchbacks

Citroen C4 EV

To compete with the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra, a new version of the Citroen C4 is expected to be released, and will have electric, petrol and diesel powertrains at launch. 

SEAT Leon

The new SEAT Leon is set to be released in the Autumn that will bring it closer to the VW Golf. The hi-tech cabin will contain a new 10-inch infotainment touchscreen and digital dial cluster. The Leon will be getting huge engine changes with both plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrains for the first time - the usual petrol and diesel offerings will remain.

Volkswagen Golf Mk 8

The new VW Golf brings with it the biggest changes in its history. The familiar stylings remain but it also brings with it a more spacious interior and boot with more cutting-edge tech. The Mk 8 will be the first to include online services and will come with a host of driver assistance technology. You’ll be able to buy a plug-in hybrid GTE model, which will be available alongside performance GTI, TCR and R badge models.

 

SUVs

Mercedes GLA

The Mercedes GLA is a more compact model than its previous iteration, looking more like a real Mercedes SUV. With the GLA based on the Mercedes A-Class hatchback, it will come with the same petrol and diesel engines when it releases in the Spring. A more powerful GLA model will be revealed later in 2020. 

Peugeot 2008 

The new small SUV Peugeot 2008 borrows heavily from the stylings of the 208 hatchback, with both hybrid and electric versions coming at a later date. The electric version will have a range of 200 miles, similar to the Nissan Leaf.

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai that many consider to be the first to popularise SUVs and crossovers shall introduce a new model during 2020. It will have a similar face to the Nissan Juke with ProPilot semi-autonomous driving assistance and e-Power hybridisation.

Land Rover Defender

The new Land Rover Defender is bringing the iconic design with a modern twist: the removal of the boxy styling. There will be a five door 100 version and a three-door 90 model. 

 

Saloons

BMW M3

2020 brings us a new BMW M3 that will offer a superb 474bhp, although a ‘Pure’ version for fans will bring a bit less power, a six-speed gearbox and rear wheel drive. The main model will have all-wheel-drive and includes BMW’s smooth automatic. This model can go from 0-60mph in under four seconds.

Jaguar XJ Electric

The current Jaguar XJ will be replaced this year by a fully electric version which is being built at the West Midlands factory. The stylings are expected to be similar to the XF, but it will also have some similarities to the Jaguar I-Pace.

Mercedes S-Class

The new S-Class is due this Summer from Mercedes, and will continue to innovate with the technology it can pack into a vehicle. The car will feature Level 3 semi-autonomous driving with a twin-screen dashboard setup expected to be replaced by a huge touchscreen. A plug-in hybrid version will arrive later on.

 

Coupes

Lexus LC 500

The Lexus LC will be offered as a stunning convertible model this year, with extra strengthening added to keep it as rigid as the coupe. The 5-litre V8 engine can do 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. A hybrid model is expected to join the range.

 

Fast SUVs

Audi RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback

Audi unveiled a new RS Q3 SUV alongside a new SUV model: the RS Q3 Sportback. The models will share mechanical parts with the Audi RS3, but the Q3 will be bigger and more practical. 

Ford Puma ST

The Ford Puma is an SUV modelled after the Ford Fiesta, which will also have a hot ST version. Boasting Ford Fiesta ST’s 197bhp, the Puma ST will be at the top of the range, offering great performance and a bigger boot than the Fiesta.

 

MPVs and People Carriers

Mercedes EQV

The Mercedes EQV will be the world’s first electric MPV. The electric version of the V-Class will have a 240 mile range and can have a 60 mile top up in just 15 minutes.
