Ford Transit Courier Review
Despite its compact design, the Ford Transit Courier has an impressive 2.3 cubic metres of capacity; 10% more load volume than other vehicles within this class. The Courier can carry up to 600kg of equipment, materials or goods. The additional fold-down passenger seat and folding mesh bulkhead the Courier is able to transport items up to 2.59m long.
To maximise the loading capacity of this vehicle, the sliding side door allows for kerb-side access to loading bay when rear access is blocked. In order to make loading cargo into the van easier, the Courier offers tie-down points off the floor for easier access opposed to floor points you’ll find in most alternative vans.
Engine & Economy
The Transit Courier is one of the best in its class when it comes to fuel efficiency as it offers just over 76mpg. To get this level of performance drivers, you would need the 1.6 litre TDCi diesel model with stop-start and speed limiter features. This specification is ideal for urban situations.
Features such as Stop-Start and Active Grill Shutter both work to save you fuel and drive more efficiently. They can stop the engine while queuing at lights or while in traffic as well as closing the grille while driving at speed to improve aerodynamics and help you save fuel.
As standard, the Transit Courier comes with Electronic Stability Control and ABS with brake assist. Additionally, the Courier comes with big van features like hill assist, sway control and roll mitigation. If you’re looking to upgrade further, the Quickclear heated windscreen is a valuable feature for those cold mornings. The Courier will even alert you when the tyre pressure isn’t quite right to ensure maximum safety performance on the road.
An improved airbag activation system is available with the Courier to protect the driver and all their passengers in order to react quicker to potential impact or collisions. The sophisticated alarm system is activated when the vehicle is locked and is set off when any of the doors are opened by force to warn you if anyone is attempting to enter your van.
The Courier’s steering wheel offers height and reach adjustability to make for a comfortable experience for drivers of almost all sizes. However, rather than a concise touchscreen control panel like you get in the Transit Connect, the controls in the Courier are made up of a collection of buttons.
Space in the cab for the driver and passenger is better than other small vans in the class. Both can make use of the deep storage bin along with a glovebox and big door pockets to store items in and keep the cab tidy. Models with sat-nav are treated to a device holder that you can charge and store your mobile in while on the go.
